Well, new media tools can be used for a lot. They can help engage students in learning. I would suggest students learn how to use twitter, blogs and facebook; these tools are becoming more prominent in the business world. I would also suggest that Baruch utilizes tools like web ex and conference calls for group projects. These tools are also becoming more prominent in the business world. I would also suggest the school use develop twitter and facebook pages for their departments and schools. This would allow students to know what’s going on at the school at all times. I would encourage professor to use these tools in the classroom. Some professors are not technologically savvy but I would require at least one new media tool should be used. The way we communicate is changing students, and teachers need to be prepared for these changes.
I totally agree with you that professors should encourage us, students to use the new media tools in the class or when studying for the class. It is sad but many professors are not very good with computers and new technologies. Some of them don't even use the Blackboard or Power Point Presentation because they are not familiar with those. Now, in almost every class there is computer, internet connection and projector so why not use it to make the class more interesting to students?
ReplyDeleteI actually had a very similar blog to yours. It's really unfortunate that we have all of these new media tools available to us (which we pay for with our tech fees) and the professors don't bother to use them. It would make the learning process a lot more interesting and pleasant for everyone involved.
